God is not angry with you. So don’t listen to the devil’s lies. The pain of being addicted to a substance, even a substance like nicotine or alcohol, can be depressing. Don’t allow the devil to make you condemn yourself. Satan is the great prosecutor and an excellent liar. He will tell you that God is angry with you and He is not going to help you quit smoking; you’re going to die of lung cancer.
God is Not Angry
Don’t be overwhelmed by life’s struggles. In such difficult times, it is easy to conclude that God is trying to teach us something through our suffering, so we turn to drugs and alcohol. While there is never an easy answer that alludes to our suffering, you should consider three things: (1) the answer is not in drugs and alcohol, and (2) God does not teach life’s lessons through pain and suffering (3) God is not angry with you.
Many people believe God is trying to teach them a lesson when they make wrong judgments, but many of the things we suffer are due to the choices we make. The one thing that you should know about God and that is God is not angry with you, nor will He ever condemn you.
“For as I have sworn that the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, so have I sworn that I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you” (Isaiah 54:9).
This scripture is proof that God will never again be angry with you, nor will he ever condemn you. That is why the scriptures say that “there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ” (Romans 8:1).
The Cross Satisfied God’s Anger
The “now” in this passage of scripture refers to the death of Jesus on the cross. Before the cross, God imputed the penalty for sin on the individual who sinned. The only way to be forgiven of the sin was through the shedding of the blood of an innocent bull, ram, or lamb.
On the cross, God imputed the penalty for your sin on Jesus who became the innocent sacrifice for your sins. God is not angry with you and He does not condemn you for your sins. The price for sin has been paid in full, once and forever. In the place of His anger, God gave us His grace (unmerited favor) and the everlasting peace of His Son, Jesus.
So the next time you reach for that cigarette, pill, or bottle, remember that God is not angry with you. God has sworn by Himself, that He will never be angry with you because His anger has been completely exhausted in His Son on the cross.
This same God made a covenant with you, just as He did with Noah. God swore to Noah that He would never again destroy life on the earth with a flood. Just as God swore to Noah after the flood that He would never again flood the earth, God has also sworn to you that He will never again be angry with you, nor will he ever condemn you.
You can lay that substance down today. You don’t need it! Jesus absorbed your cigarette smoking, your drinking, your drug use, in His own body on the cross. Know today, that God is not angry with you; therefore, you are delivered from your vice.
