New Orleans Crime Patrol: Pray ‘Peace’

by Eric Dunbar

We’re seriously in need of a crime patrol. Crime in New Orleans is out of control. is allocating the entire month of December to pray for our beloved city. I am asking you to join wit us in prayer for the month of December.

What can we do to change the crime situation in our city? We can start by not giving up, by not turning a deaf ear to the cries of the innocent, whose blood cries out from the city’s streets in eternal silence. We all can’t protest crime in the city by marching through the city’s streets carrying signs, but we, the body of Christ can unite to form a crime patrol—we can pray.

Pray ‘Peace’ in New Orleans

Jeremiah 29:7 says “…seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it, for in its peace you will have peace.” While God may not have brought us to New Orleans as captives, I believe no citizen of New Orleans is in the city by coincidence. We are here because God placed us here. Therefore, we should “…pray to the Lord for it, for in its peace you will have peace.”

If you have been watching the news, you already know that violent crime has consumed our beloved city. On Wednesday, November 30, the fatal shooting of a Mid-City man marked the 164th homicide in New Orleans this year. That, in my opinion, is unacceptable. If the citizens of New Orleans don’t do something to avert crime in our city that has now reached unbelievable numbers, we can only expect crime in our city to worsen. That is why I am asking you to join Crime Patrol.

How to Join Crime Patrol

There’s nothing to do except commit to praying for the peace of New Orleans. That’s it! The Bible says that the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16). As a Bible believing, Spirit filled citizen of New Orleans, I believe the fervent prayers of Crime Patrol will make a world of difference in our city. Please help us by committing to be a member of Crime Patrol for the month of December.

Satan instigates crime. He is the real enemy. Satan goes undetected, wreaking havoc in our beloved city. Prayer is our greatest defense against this outlaw. In desperate times we have to draw confidence from the stories written in the Bible concerning prayer. When the Assyrians rose up against the men of God, Hezekiah prayed, and one night the angel of the Lord visited the camp of the Assyrians and killed 185,000 men (2 Kings 19:35).

The way I see it, we have three alternatives. We can (1) be spectators and watch our city be consumed by crime, (2) make vain comments, or (3) pray with the fervent expectation that God will intervene and change the situation.

The murder pace this year remain below 2015’s through much of the summer and part of early fall. But in the months of October and November, the city got hammered. In those two months alone, a total of 37 people have been murdered in the city — more than three times the 11 total murders recorded in the same two months last year.

Take the Challenge

I urge you to not just sit by and be spectators. Our city is in overrun with criminal activity because we have sat back and watch it happen.

“If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

I challenge you to stand with me by joining in fervent prayer against crime in New Orleans. I believe together we can, and will regain control of our beloved city. Whatever time you can allocate each day to pray for our city, please make the commitment.

Thank you in advance, and peace to you and your family.
