What is man that God would even think about him? When you think about all of the things that God has created, you would have to admit that this is a pretty awesome question.
The Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God…” (Psalm 19:1). So when you look up at the night sky you get a glimpse into the awesome mind of God. It is estimated that there are at least 200-billion galaxies in the known universe, and many of them contain billions of suns and countless solar systems just like our own. Against the backdrop of this immense tapestry of the night sky, the earth is like a mere grain of sand. When you consider this alone, one cannot help but wonder what could possibly be so significant about man that God would find him worthy of His thoughts.
Three thousand years ago, King David wrote:
“When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet” (Psalm 8:3-5).
Male and Female
When God created man, He created them male and female (Genesis 1:27). In other words, God makes no distinction between the genders because God calls both the male and the female man. However, there are certain characteristics that the male gender possesses that make him worthy of God’s attention. So if I may, I would like to talk to all the men about who WE are in the eyes of God.
How God Sees the Male Gender
Every man should be proud to be a man because we men possess the qualities of God. You see men, when God created the heavens and the earth, and every other living thing, He spoke them into existence. But when God made us, He spoke to Himself, and this is what He said:
This remarkable fact lets us know men, that being made in God’s likeness, in our saved, sanctified and glorified state, we men, are just like God. And being made in His image, we have the physical features of God.
So what are we men, that God would keep him continually in His thoughts? First, we are God’s sons. When we read the genealogy of Christ, who by the way, called Himself the Son of man, we see that the first man, Adam, was the son of God. As Adam’s descendants, we are God’s sons. The Bible says in Luke chapter 3, that it was supposed that Jesus, the Son of God, was the son of Joseph. For clarity God traces the bloodlines of Jesus all the way back to the creation, where in the 38th verse of Luke chapter 3 He says, “Adam was the son of God.”
As sons of God, we have the faith of God. The Bible says in Mark 11:23, that if you men, have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can move mountains with your words.
I want to encourage you men, by reminding you who you really are — not who your friends say you are, not who your co-workers say you are, not who your club-hopping associates say you are — but who God says you are, when you choose to walk with Him.
We all have our mountains. Your mountain is that one thing that the devil puts before your eyes to keep you from seeing God. So men, I ask you, what is your mountain?
My mountain was crack cocaine. There was a time when I used to chase that little white demon filled stone 24/7. During that time things got really bad for me. I lost everything. My wife was gone; my possessions were gone; my children lost all respect for me; all my friends were gone. All I had was a crack pipe.
But then like the Prodigal son, one day I came to my senses. I remembered who my Daddy is. You see, when I call Him “Daddy” I am reminded that I am His son. I had to remind myself that I was created in the image of my Daddy. I had to remind myself that nothing was impossible for me because my Daddy had breathed His very life into me, and therefore the One who was living inside of me was greater than the one who was causing me to run behind that little white demonic rock.
One day I said to myself, “Today, I’m going get up and go to my Daddy. Today, I’m going to ask my Daddy to forgive me. Today, I’m going to tell my Daddy that I want to come home.” Before I could tell my Daddy the speech that I had rehearsed, I saw Him running toward me. He moved that mountain, and lifted me up out of my sorrows, and more than 20 years later, I stand before you, restored.
Everything the devil took from me, my Daddy gave it back. The first thing the devil took was my wife. The first thing my Daddy gave me was a new wife.
I want to remind you men, that you are God’s special creation. You are sons of God, and your Daddy loves you unconditionally. In fact He loves you so much that He sent His Son to die for you so you could spend eternity with Him.
So be encouraged men, and know that whatever your mountain is, you don’t have to allow it to stand between you and your Daddy. Use your faith and speak to your mountain. And if you can’t move it, cry out to your Daddy. I’m a witness that He will come running, because you are the apple of His eye and no weapon formed against you will prosper.
So the next time you’re under attack, think about who God says you are and encourage yourself by saying these words: I am a son of the Living God. My Daddy loves me, and I love my Daddy.
