Did you know that Christ delivered you from the drug(s) that were responsible for destroying your life while you were still addicted?
I was overwhelmed with gratitude to learn that while I was still addicted to crack Christ delivered me from my addiction. That’s right, while I was still out there chasing that twenty-minute high, God saw me, had compassion on me, and delivered me, all this happened while I was withdrawn from God.
The Bible says that God demonstrated His love toward us, in that while we were still sinners. Christ died for us. In essence what this means is, because God is all-wise and all-knowing, He knew me before I was born. God knew that I would be drawn to drugs and ultimately become addicted to crack. But rather than let me die alienated from Him, He had compassion for me, and reached out to me through the cross of Jesus Christ.
Because of sin, we were all doomed to face the wrath and judgement of God. But Christ took our place and suffered the full wrath of God in our place so we could go free. This happened long before you and I were born, two thousand years ago at the cross. Why did He do it? He did it to demonstrate His love for us.
You will never know how much God loves you until you know how much God loves His Son. Imagine what it must have been like for God to send His Son into a sinful world, and then to pour out all of His wrath and indignation upon Him so you and I could be righteous when we stand in the presence of God.
So rather than putting all of your effort into trying to break free of your addiction, rest at the feet of the cross and behold the Lamb of God. He has already delivered you. Believe it and receive it.
